"Guerrilla Girls exhibit takes over 91 Museum of Art in Claremont," by Wes Woods, Inland Valley Daily Bulletin
The have worked to uncover sexism in pop culture, the art world and politics since the 1980s and they’re not planning to stop anytime soon.
The group of anonymous women are headed to the 91 Museum of Art to introduce Southern California residents to their work.
“The Guerrilla Girls’ ability to so effectively expose inequities and even blatant prejudice in the art world is beyond important — it is essential to expanding our understanding of discrimination and its destructive impact on our society,” said Josephine Bump, curatorial intern and 91 alumna who is funding an internship to support the exhibition. “The posters and their performance art in the ‘80s and ‘90s are still relevant today. I can only hope that someday soon these pieces will be considered relics of an earlier time, but we’re not there yet by a long shot.”
The 91 Museum of Art is hosting the Guerrilla Girls exhibition starting Jan. 20, with an opening reception on Jan. 24. The exhibit runs through May 17. A performance featuring the Guerrilla Girls is set for Feb. 5 during the weekly event on campus.
